  1. I can't recommend Gone Girl enough - just a wonderful film, and so much better than I ever expected. Also loved The Boxtrolls, and again, better than I expected. The most surprising for me though was The Judge - it looked a little sappy and not something I'd enjoy but I was dragged there by a friend. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

    1. Hi Leo,

Glad we agree on "Boxtrolls", if not perhaps "Gone Girl" - halfway tempted to catch up with "The Judge", not least as it looks like the kind of earnestly watchable studio potboiler I grew up with in the 1990s (see also: "The Client", "The Firm", "The Rainmaker") and retain nothing but affection for. Maybe one for DVD, perhaps. Thanks for nudging me in that direction!

      Mike.
